INSPIRATIONAL STORY.read through(POLITICAL TRIBALISM NOOO) When I lived in kibera I shared my modest crib with Onyango,Kimani,Kipngeno,Mutisya and Abdi.Abdi was new to the city and thus shared a bed with Mutisya,my dad recalls. The only thing that separated our bedrooms was a lesoan old dirty bed sheet and a black polythene sheet that Mutisya had picked on his way from Industrial area,my father narrates. They shared everything and showered in shifts and on alternate Sundays life was hard but they tried their best to be happy.Kimani pushed mokoteni at marikiti and every evening he went home with a mixture of everything that was sold in the market. From it they made stew,my father makes me burst out laughing when he says everyday this stew tasted distinctly different and authentic even though the ingredients remained the same, the quantity varied.Sometimes the pilipili or the dania will be in plenty hence making the taste of the day. They listened to Kameme and K.B.C radio together and shared ushindi bar soap for washing geisha kubwa for bathing.Played drought at weekends. In short they were more of brothers, they remained so for five years until elections were called and campaigns were here. This became time to part ways they got different identities jaluo, mkamba, kisii, sapere, walalo.Identifying themselves with the rich politicians was the new order, not the poor friendship they had maintained for years. During the election day everybody was in his home to vote for his wealthy politician. The wealthy man from our tribe Mr.Mogere Chris the current senator Kisii county won as mp of Bobasi and dad went back to the same room he had shared by his fellows of his class for five years.Albeit with some election posters to decorate their crib.Mheshimiwa headed to grand regency to celebrate with people of his class. That night they were together again and lacked food hence they slept with no food. After awhile things came back to normal dad was back to sharing everything with Abdi,Musyoka,Onyango etc.Whenever their was a bereavement amongst themselves they all attended. Just the poor people muheshimiwa was busy on the beach. But when mheshimiwa got bereaved dad recalls mourning him for weeks, even though he was never let to go past his gate. When he engaged in corruption he defended him fiercely just because he spoke his language,to cut short he voted for mheshimiwa who lived big while for them life was the same still the same peanuts. What if we had voted for one of us regardless of tribe could life be different??my father asks himself.Identify with your own tribe he immediately consulted himself. The common thing between you and mheshimiwa is the language.NOTHING else NOTHING!!!But the list of common things you share with Kiage,Musyoka,Onyango,Abdi is endless lets embrass each other sisi si watribal si ni wa tribe all.
