INTERNSHIP AND VOLUNTEERING SMALL GRANT SCHEME – UGX 350,000 @ for 20 Youths November 5, 2013 at 4:25pm BACKGROUND Summit Foundation (SUFO) is a youth centered civil society organization established in August 2008 and first registered as a Community Based Organization in March 2009 and later incorporated in September 2012 as a charitable company limited by guarantee with a vision of “a world where every young man and woman enjoys fundamental human rights, equality and democracy, and everybody lives free of poverty and injustices”. SUFO is implementing a six month project titled Youth for Change with funding from the Youth Solidarity Fund 2013 under the United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC). One of the purposes of the project is to promote the spirit of volunteering among the youth from Acholi and Langi sub-regions and increase access to socio–economic opportunities, improve inter–cultural relations and peaceful co–existence and development in the two target sub-regions. The project intends to support 20 young interns/volunteers with small grant to facilitate their internship/volunteering in any reputable organization within Acholi and/or Langi sub-region for a period of one month. SUFO therefore invites applications from suitable candidates for award of UGX 350,000 small grant funding to support accommodation, meals and local travels of successful applicant (the grantee) for a period of 4 weeks effective from November 25 – December 20 2013. Deadline for submission of the application is Friday, November 15, 2013 at 17:00Hrs local time. CRITERIA The applicant must be from any district of either Lango or Acholi sub-region. The applicant must not be more than 30 years old. The applicant must be in possession of a Certificate or Diploma or Degree from any recognized institution in any field or discipline of study. The applicant must be ready or available to commence internship/volunteering in his/her station of internship/volunteer acceptance by Monday, November 25, 2013 and complete the same by Friday, December 20, 2013. The applicants from Lango should be willing to intern/volunteer in Acholi and vice versa. GUIDELINE FOR SUBMISSION All applications MUST be written in English and not exceeding 2 pages. In case the applicant is already admitted for internship/volunteering, the said applicants should describe the organization or institution in which he/she has been offered internship/volunteering opportunity, highlighting its internship/volunteering duration, details of the supervisor, the geographical location and the applicant’s willingness to take part into the internship/volunteering programme for the entire one month period. In case the applicant do not have any institution or organization which have offered him/her a place of internship/volunteering, SUFO shall help with contacting reputable agencies to offer a place for the duration of 4 weeks. Applicants must also attach all relevant copies of academic documents and most recent curriculum vitae. Please Note that ten (10) Acholi youths will be supported to intern/volunteer in Lango sub-region and ten (10) Langi youths will be supported to intern/volunteer in Acholi sub-region. The distribution of this support shall take into account a 50% representation of female beneficiaries. This is in the best interest of promoting inter-cultural relations, diversifying socio-economic opportunities and strengthening peace and cooperation across the borders of the two neighbors. IMPORTANT DEADLINES: Deadline for submission of applications is November 15, 2013, at 5:00pm. Applications can be submitted electronically to [email protected] and copied to [email protected]. Applications can also be hand–delivered to Summit Foundation (SUFO)’s Office, Plot 22 Patiko Road, Kabedopong, Gulu; or delivered by post to Project Coordinator, Youth for Change Project, Summit Foundation (SUFO), P.O. Box 751, Gulu, Uganda. Grantees are expected to commence their internship/volunteering by November 26, 2013 and complete by December 20, 2013 – duration of 4 weeks.
