IRISH RACING WEEKEND PREVIEWS Venue: LISTOWEL Date: 20 September 2014 First race: 2.00pm (8 Races - Jumps) Going: Good The Listowel Harvest festival comes to an end on Saturday afternoon, but there is no shortage of punting opportunities to end the week with a bang for punters, and another competitive eight race card goes to post at 2.00pm • Listowel racecourse conclude their Harvest festival on Saturday afternoon with another competitive eight-race jumps card, with the feature M.J. Carroll Arro Handicap Hurdle going to post at 4.55. The champion trainer Willie Mullins has had another typically strong week and is represented with recent Kilbeggan winner Ask Vic in the €25,000 contest. Paul Townend takes the ride. • Legendary owner JP McManus will be double handed in his attempt to land the €20,000 Cashen Novice Hurdle. The Aidan OBrien-trained Draco was a close second at Galway last time, while the Jessica Harrington-trained Raes Creek made an impressive winning debut over hurdles at Ballinrobe two months ago. Both horses look to have very strong claims. • The Noel Meade-trained Please Talk was a wide margin winner a fortnight ago at Galway in what was admittedly a poor race. The case could be made that Please Talk may have been given a much needed confidence boost on that occasion, and if the McManus-owned gelding can improve again, he would take some stopping under Paul Carberry in the Clieveragh Handicap Chase. • The concluding Listowel Races Supporters Club Slan Abhaile (Q.R.) Race is a real cracker with many talented sorts taking part. All eyes will be on the Michael Winters-trained Rebel Fitz making his first racecourse start since winning the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse earlier this year, while the Peter Fahey-trained Alton Bay will attract his own supporters. Alton Bay arrives here having won his last four races and will bid to cap off a memorable week for Kerry National-winning jockey Katie Walsh. • The eight-race jumps card at Listowel begins at 2.00pm. Venue: GOWRAN PARK Date: 21 September 2014 First race: 2.00pm (8 Races - Flat) Going: Good to firm (good in places) Attention switches to Gowran Park on Sunday afternoon with the €72.500 Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes playing host to eight talented fillies • Eight talented fillies will line up for the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes at Gowran Park on Sunday and the Dermot Weld-trained Brooch will be a popular sort among punters to land the €72.500 prize. Unbeaten on her only two starts on a racecourse so far, Brooch sets the standard and should be hard to beat under Pat Smullen. • If Brooch cannot take the step up to Group 3 company in her stride, there will seven other rivals snapping at her heals on Sunday. The Tommy Stack-trained Alive Alive Oh has never really delivered on the lofty reputation that has surrounded her, but she did hint at a return to form at the Curragh on her most previous start and should not be discounted too lightly under Fran Berry. • Aidan OBrien provided his son Donnacha with his first victory in the saddle on board Quartz at Dundalk a fortnight ago and the pair will be hoping to double up on that success in the concluding gowranpark.ie Rated Race. • The action at Gowran Park gets underway at 1.55.
