ISSUED NOVEMBER 25, 2013 The 6th BOC “SUPERMAN” DepCom for EG ARIEL NEPOMUCENO The last and sixth deputy commissioner appointed by Malacanang to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) finally gets to flex his executive muscles, as former civil defense director Ariel Nepomuceno finally assumed his post last Friday, November 22, 2013 as the Bureau of Customs Deputy Commissioner for Enforcement Group (EG). Nepomuceno completes the lineup of Malacanang appointees who have been tagged by Aduana stakeholders as “supermen” in recognition of their superior qualifications as befit the mandates of their respective posts. He is the former director and executive officer of the Office of Civil Defense of the Department of National Defense. He belongs to the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1987. He graduated as magna cum laude with an Economics degree from the University of the Philippines, and is reported to be presently taking up law at the UP College of Law. In a statement sent by Nepomuceno to media, the deputy commissioner for Enforcement Group said he will contribute to improve revenue collections and reform the bureau. “The reforms our people are expecting are not only about change of people, but change in people. Not only about re-organization, but making BOC into a functional, client friendly and graft free government agency. Not only about policy change, but ensuring accountable and responsible operations at our respective duty stations,” he said. Nepomuceno has proposed that BOC must be certified as an International Standard Organization (ISO) to show the wide ranging reforms and ensure the quality of services in the agency. “Imagine our impact, if we perform our duties with the highest degree of accountability, integrity and transparency,” he said. The appointment of Nepomuceno was transmitted to Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, whose department has jurisdiction over the BOC. Nepomuceno thanked President Benigno S. Aquino III and said he is one with the BOC leadership in implementing reforms and delivery of public service.
