ITM Cup/ Ranfurly Shield Preview... Hawkes Bay vs Wellington The Wellington Lions will get the chance to win the Ranfurly shield for the first time since 2009 tonight when they take on Hawkes Bay. Wellington will be looking for a win, not only to win the shield but also to get their first win of the season after a lacklustre season. Lions coach Chris Boyd has named a similar team to the one that was thrashed by counties at the weekend, with Vaea Fifita moved to the starting lineup for the injured Mark Reddish. Hawkes bay will be looking to retain the shield after a disappointing loss to North Harbour at the weekend and will start the match $1.27 favourties to Wellingtons $3.50. My pick: Wellington 12-. I feel this is a good chance for Wellington to grab some points and the Ranfurly Shield is an entirely different ball game than just ITM cup. Meanwhile, Counties have announced Sonny Bill Williams will play for them against Auckland next Wednesday. Williams - back from a two year stint in league - will start on the bench in the Auckland derby.
