ITV opportunity for people with disabilities... As ITV’s flagship Continuing Drama and the UK’s most watched soap, Coronation Street is leading the way across the diversity agenda, and continuing to show it’s commitment to developing diverse talent both on and off screen. Last week we launched the Original Voices initiative in partnership with Creative Skillset, enabling us to connect with local BAME – Black, Asian or other Minority Ethnic writing talent in the North West. We are now continuing our investment and partnership with Creative Skillset, to attract and develop diverse talent by launching our onscreen disability initiative, Breaking Through Talent. The initiative is a one-day intensive casting workshop for actors with a disability. The workshop will take place in MediaCity, Salford on Wednesday 19th November, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge to help support their career, be given a live audition and receive constructive feedback from the team. Actress Cherylee Houston and Casting Directors at Coronation Street will be delivering the workshop. The workshop is open to male and female performers with a disability who also meet the following criteria: Aged 18 or over Maximum number of 4 TV credits (as the initiative is for ‘breakthrough’ performers) Evidence of a commitment to acting (eg school, college, fringe, stand up, online presence) Priority will be given to applicants based in or originally from the North West. Where possible, we will support all reasonable adjustment requests for those individuals who have been successful in securing a place on the workshop. Breaking Through is a call out to disabled performers to work with Coronation Street writers, directors and performers – an access all areas event. In a reversal of many casting calls, you don’t need an agent, you don’t need any TV credits, you do need talent and drive. We know you’re out there – it’s time to show us what you can do. Project Manager, Janet Hampson Coronation Street is delighted to announce the Breaking Through Talent initiative. It’s a fantastic opportunity to find and engage with new and emerging actors who have a disability. Not only will these actors be able to gain invaluable audition experience but who knows, maybe we’ll find the next Jack and Vera!
