IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE MUSEUM SENECA FALLS, N.Y. wonderfullifemuseum/ HOW DID FR. MIKE’S PICTURE END UP THERE? As many of you know, the Higgins stopped in at the “It’s a Wonderful Life Museum” in Seneca Falls, N.Y., last week on their trip to Maine. Anne posted a picture of Fr. Mike’s display and was pleasantly shocked by the stir it caused on FACEBOOK. Many had questions as to how the information on Fr. Mike got to the museum so I decided to share the scoop. Several years ago, right before Christmas, I saw an advertisement for the museum on television. Anyone who heard Fr. Mike’s homilies on a regular basis knew of his fascination with the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life.” He managed to weave George Bailey and Bedford Falls into his talks on a frequent basis. The MP4, which is posted below, contains the homily that I sent to Anwei Law, the director of the museum. I also sent several pictures of our boy along with the book, “How Good Is Your Shepherd”. Anwei was intrigued with the story and has been working to incorporate Fr. Mike’s bio. into a display. It was completed just this year. This was Anwei’s most recent email: (By the way, she is originally from Hawaii.) Dear Sue: Sorry for the LONG delay in this. We have been continually changing our Museum around and plan some bigger changes soon. In the meantime, attached are two photos of our display for Father Mike. The photos on the wall above him are the George Bailey winners for the last 10 years. The painting behind him was done by a fan but is actually signed by Jimmy Stewart. I’m also attaching the write-up we have about it, where you are quoted. Just last week we had two visitors come in and they were reading about Fr. Mike and were very surprised – turns out they were from Appleton and were just shocked to see him in our Museum. So – it’s taken a long time, but he is here and as we work to expand, we will work on displaying his presence some more. By the way – we have updated our website a lot and will continue to do so. We hope to be adding the George Bailey winners so will also add Fr. Mike. We can link to you there. Anyway – step by step. With best wishes and thanks for your patience. Aloha, Anwei There was some mention of Fr. Mike’s diary from the seminary. While his sentiment of “having a life that mattered” was woven within the pages of his diary, it was written early in his seminary days. He did not see “It’s a Wonderful Life” until right before graduation. The movie fulfilled who and what he dreamed to be. He was successful. If you’ve ever wondered if GEORGE BAILEY was fictional or real, know you’ve met him in our FR. MIKE O’ROURKE.
