IWHS Athletics to Present Check to Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation - TONIGHT WHAT: The Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) Athletics Department will present a check for $8,000 tonight to the friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation for their mobile mammography unit. The check presentation will take place tonight at the annual IWHS “Dig Pink” volleyball game. Today’s game will feature IWHS and South San High School. The money was raised by IWHS student athletes who sold breast cancer awareness t-shirts and donations from the 2014 Sister’s Trail Ride, which took place in July. WHO: Incarnate Word High School and the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. WHEN: 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2014 WHERE: Incarnate Word High School McGowan Gymnasium 727 E. Hildebrand San Antonio, Texas 78212 Background: In July, IWHS Athletic Director, Coach April Fricke embarked on an historic ride. She rode her bike along the same route the first three Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word traveled from Freeport to San Antonio in 1869, approximately 250 miles. Fricke left Freeport on Friday, July 25 and arrived back in San Antonio on Monday, July 28. With support from Sr. Margaret Snyder, a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word leadership team, Fricke raised $4,000 matching the dollars raised by her athletes.
