Iceland Laekjarbrekka restaurant Restaurant serving local Icelandic food Wind dried fish in butter thanks for the butter as its like eating cardboard but tasty in a strange way, if masticated for at least five mins then its edible! Minke whale makes you want to gag the reflux is undeniable! however the after is to be savoured but not for long! Graeme called this minding whale not minke! Seaweed a little salty and definitely tastes like seaweed smells Puffin and crowberries the berries are like water at first then there is a definitive after taste of bitterness sorry about puffin however he tastes quite nice Now then the special fermented shark! God almighty, the mens toilet in the street with the strongest stench of pee! Thats been there for years the strength of ammonia is nothing on how this smells it is served in a killer for a bloody good reason it brings tears to your eyes bear grylls has nothing on me as I tried this god forsaken food and promptly spat it back out into the Kilmer and returned it safely to its home in the kitchen bin!! This is something to really behold never again will taste anything like this as long as I live! If you take a good sniff of this potent food its smells like stewed nappies soaked in wee wee! The waiter said this was mild and it is usually stronger in smell god only knows how! Must be nuclear reactive when fully fermented! However an Icelandic spirit is usually served with it to wash away the taste left in the throat! I was not given this as you definitely need something to cleanse your pallet to prevent after regurgitation! My darling said he would rather try a kangaroo testicle than eat that! The smell he said was unexpected. This dish could bring round the dead smelling salts have nothing on this delicacy actually the waiter said it was more what the old folk of Iceland would eat out of necessity rather than because they really like it. But I did try everything in this lovely taster of Iceland I need a medal for the shark I really cannot describe this pungent smell in words shame its not a scratch and sniff blog. Followed by a langoustine soup very tasty! The lamb was absolutely melt in your mouth delicious. A vanilla like cheesecake fruit and black currant sorbet. Big g had dried fish to start he was expecting more smoked than dried out so much it could absorb the Atlantic Ocean before it became moist followed by cormorant a bird very nice to! The Chard was like a light version of salmon a truly beautiful delicate tasting pink fish. We were just discussing what graeme was going to have for dessert and out came an extravaganza of a dessert with a strawberry mouse with an aerated yoghurt to top it off so sumptuously delightful. Cheesecake thingys. Black currant mousse chocolate brownies fresh fruit strawberry and mint with crunchy tasting crumbles scattered around the dish yummy yum yum x best of all the restaurant gave us this as a gift on the house how wonderful never had anything like that before and the Tii hamingiu - means congratulations ! How marvellous and kind! Nice walk home and then made a rainproof jacket purchase from Cintamani bright orange! I will definitely be seen from a distance so at least he wont lost me in the crowd unless I get mistaken for molten lava from the volcanoes. Off to sleep great day one in Iceland!!
