Id heard that he was still alive, but I thought it was just a myth. But last night, right there before my own eyes stood the man that, eighteen years ago, in front of my parents, both in their late 70s, that one aging professor, Dr James Carl, the man that professed to me an opened offer of a letter of recommendation, then failed me on my final for spelling errors alone in Geochemistry, the study of the theoretical geologic and elemental make up of the universe. Failing his class was the meltdown I needed. It sent me on one of my greatest adventures, out to Yellowstone National Park. It was there at the Old Faithful Inn, while working as a Prep Cook by day,, I became an Official Park Volunteer, earning me the nick name, Geyser Jim. Here stood that ancient pillar of my past. It was as though God had somehow perfectly preserved this Harry Potter Hogwarts Faculty like curmudgeon, in the same age as he had been 18 years hence, but thats impossible. So I broke the appropriate professional barriers that Dr Carl was accustomed to, and I hugged him, just to make sure it wasnt some sort of twisted flashback. When I told him who I was, it sparked his memory, I told him, Imagine me, but with hair. It was scary, whatever natural Adirondack spring this guy tapped into needs to be discovered quickly. Dr Carl has to now be my parents age when they passed 10 years ago, which means an active mind and a good healthcare plan, are keys to longevity. May God bless all of the Dr Carls of my life, they helped to steer me off from the beaten path just enough, to keep my life interesting.
