Id like to open a dialogue in recognition of autism day. Most of you know that a couple of months ago, I tripped over a kid who was running wild during a banquet and had to get my face glued. I recently worked another banquet with a kid running around, and my coworker Corie Blagg mustve seen the anxiety on my face. She found out the child is autistic and has to shut doors, so he would run to the door if it was left open. Parents and educators of autistic children, how would you handle the situation regarding the kid? It was dangerous to him and others, but I understand social situations have challenges for these families. I guess what Im asking is how would you balance safety and meltdowns in their place. Do you have any suggestions for me other than being very cautious?
