Idea for anyone wanting to hang Christmas lights on the eave of your house: Buy a joint of 1/2 inch metal conduit. Drill a small hole, just large enough to accommodate the screw end of a large cup hook, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch down on one end. Prepare a wooden dowel to fit tightly in the pipe. Put a one inch piece of dowel in the end of the pipe where you drilled the hole. Drill a small pilot hole into wood. Screw a large cup hook through the conduit and into the dowel.. Bend the cup hook open so that the front of the hook is parallel with the conduit, but still has the loop. Screw permanent outdoor cup hooks into the facer board along your eave. Hook the end of your light string just passed the first light onto the conduit and lift into place. When you get close to the end of your string, plug in the next one and continue. Reverse to remove. Much easier than climbing and moving a ladder. I made one this year and it worked great.
