If I could pick one thing to put in a time capsule for future intelligent life to understand human beings, I think it would be a video of Thelonious Monk playing Round Midnight ( Grand Finale was the reputed original title). The song is discordant and unconventional and comes from a gifted but distorted mind. The improvised song seems to have no beginning or end but only a start and finish. And no discernible story line but a certain flow that we all can in some way relate to. A moody song that we dont understand and are jarred by but also drawn to -- because it rings true to us. Random yet melodious; crude yet elegant; fevered yet perceptive; profane yet sacred; pained yet transportive; as we attempt to bang out a coded message to the universe that we were here --- and created beauty despite our madness through a divine inspiration. https://youtube/watch?v=xC68NtEmAcc&sns=fb
