If I were a national team coach heading into the World Cup (with a solid chance of winning) I would opt to not even play my starters for exhibitions. The risk of injury super cedes anything at this point. Just look at M\xican midfielder Luis Montes and Ecuadors Segundo Castillo both losing out on the World Cup. Watching yesterdays Brazil match - lots of crazy challenges by nothing to lose Panamanian defenders. What is the point for Messi to be playing against Trinidad & Tobago? The better teams with the stars also tend to have amazing benches. In my opinion it is much better to play scrimmages in house versus risking injury and losing some major contributors for the World Cup. Of course some coaches just cut your most experienced player, and leader, without injury or for any reason at all ... but that is another subject for another discussion!!
