If a spitball is thrown properly, it is almost impossible to hit. The only problem is that it is illegal and if you’re caught, you’ll get thrown out of the game. And, nobody uses spit any more: it’s hi-tech with Vaseline. You must conceal the Vaseline somewhere on your uniform, cap or glove. Then, you transfer some to the fingertips of your index and middle fingers. Grip the ball in the horseshoe area (going with the seams, not across them). Then, just pop the ball out instead of throwing it like your normal pitches (similar to popping a watermelon seed). It will move quickly and downward just as it reaches the batter. Even if you don’t want to take a chance at throwing one in a game, it’s fun to throw it on the sidelines to see its incredible movement.
