If anybody cared to watch Historys REVELATION: THE END OF DAYS, - TopicsExpress

If anybody cared to watch Historys REVELATION: THE END OF DAYS, you can chime in with your thoughts after reading this. I need to make just two main points. Although it started off good enough, it lost me, basically, in part two when it turned the focus to the United States. In fact, I disagree with several premises presented in the program. Apocalyptic teachings span over a range of many books in the Bible, Old and New Testaments. Many Pre-Jesus prophets foretold both of Jesus first and second comings. Of course, we are more familiar with St. John of Patmos now famous telling of the end of days in the book of Revelation. Youre going to find many who think that many of the prophecies were a veiled description of current events. And in some cases that could be true. However, some things prophesied were impossible in their times. Only now can some of the things foretold by some ancients come to pass. With that being said, the United States is NOT the focal point of any of the prophesies. It is Israel. That doesnt mean the good old U. S. of A. wont have its role in the apocalypse. It IS a worldwide event. But all the armies of the north and the east are based off old world calendars...and Rome. Then there are interpretations which flourish with diversity. There are some who base it off the English translations, some off the original Greek and Aramaic, some who think literal, some who think allegorical, and some who blend it all together. The point is there is too much information to accurately and properly present in four hours. In their defense, they had to make a dramatic showing and revolved it around two journalists chronicling events as they unfolded. So I didnt really care for the two night event. I would have much rather watched a few documentaries. Now on the point of the apocalypse, a friend of mine commented the other night saying it was bad theology. I have to concur. From the earliest of times after Jesus crucifixion Christians have concentrated on His return. Everybody is always trying to figure out when Jesus will return. One church, the Seventh Day Adventists, was even created because of flawed predictions. It has been an obsession for two thousand years. However, in the 1970s one book began the modern infatuation of the apocalypse, Hal Lindseys The Late Great Planet Earth. Since then there have been a multitude of books on the subject. Hundreds of papers and sermons have been published and preached on the subject. And that has posed a problem. While it is an important part of Gods plan, and we need to know about it, it has fostered a laziness in the Christian population. Bad theology. Bad teaching. It has come to a point where Christians are now hunkered in their basements, clinging to their Bibles, and hoping the Lord comes soon. Part of me doesnt blame them. The world sucks right now and seems to be going downhill rather quickly, as some would say, Going to Hell in a hand basket. The world needs a savior. We worship its savior. As worshippers of the Savior, Jesus Christ, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to do great things in His name. We are not called to hide in our basements and allow evil to desecrate His world, our world unfettered. To be Christ-like means to confront evil, not cower before it. Jesus taught us how to do this. Its all in the manual, the Bible. This is what we should be preaching, not how to get rich and thrive in an increasingly evil world, not accepting the ways of the wicked out of love. What do we love most, their sinful ways that make them fit in and be happy in an evil world or their eternal souls? That is a question you need to ask yourselves when confronted by tolerance. We are in the business of saving souls for Jesus. Never forget it.
