If it seems like theres been a lot of change lately it might be because there has and there will be this time of year. Essentially the tilt of the Earths axis combined with the effect of the elongated nature of our planets orbit around the Sun creates a situation where in the 30 days before the Equinox the Sun at Sunrise and Sunset points appears to move 12 degrees north of the Earths celestial equator. Easiest way to understand the celestial equator is to picture the equator of the Earth extended out into space like a plate. To the observer on Earth the Sun crosses that plate twice a year, at the Spring or Vernal Equinox, and at the Autumnal Equinox. At this time in the approx. 25,970 year cycle of these Equinoxes appearing to us here on the planet as moving backwards through the zodiac at a rate of one degree every 72 years, these Equinoxes occur around Sept. 21st and March 21st. However over this long 25,970 cycle known as the Procession of the Equinoxes, every date in our calendar gets to spend its time as both equinoxes and eventually both summer and winter solstices as well. Although we collectively take these points of our seasonal shifts for granted, ever slanted towards a northern hemisphere perspective, to grasp how different it can be to experience this one feature of our grand celestial clock at another time of year one need only experience these equinoxes or solstices from somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere. Saying all that to say that in the 30 days before the Equinox the Suns path across the sky as most easily measured at the sunrise and sunset points appears to move 12 degrees north; and then again in the 30 days after the Northern hemisphere Spring Equinox the Suns path appears to inch north another 12 degree for a total over just sixty days of 24 degrees. A degree is 72 miles. As the Sun in a whole year only travels approx. 23 degrees (between 22 and 24 degrees varies over a 41,000 year cycle) north or south of the celestial equator, for a total 46 degrees, in these sixty days we experience about half of all the variation in apparent solar movement. The significance of this of course is the length of day and the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earths surface which is the main factor driving both short term and long term weather cycles. This factor, the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earths surface has been termed insolation by Serbian geophysicist and astronomer Milutin Milanković, who first manually calculated a correlation between insolation and the incidence of ice ages. And in addition Mercury was retrograde from Feb. 6th thru Feb. 28th when it began moving direct. Mars and Saturn went retrograde on the weekend of March 1st & 2nd. While Saturn spends about 5 months a year retrograde (until July 20th, Mars only goes retrograde every 2.5 years, usually for about 2.5 months, this time until May 20th. As a planet of fertility, action, and initiation the energy potential is ripe for bold action, new direction, and self initiation, its important to take careful thoughtful action while making the most of spontaneity and volatility. Good time to make healthiest choices about ones relationship to anger. On the global stage we can see how so many of the volatile places are in crisis with regards to action, violence, choices, and initiating new directions
