If it would help I can give you some extremely valuable insight into the motives and plans of Russia, China, India, Egypt, Brazil, Japan, and many other nations. These nations will attempt to increase their influence and their self-interests in the world. Some will use strategies and tactics that are viewed as unwise and dangerous to the US and to other (including each other). This surprising insight is that the laws of physics apply to nations as much as to us individually. That Russia has intentions that we don’t think are in our best interests and that fly in the face of our beliefs is, or should be, self-evident. If you think telling me that Mitt’s warning in his campaign demonstrates some highly intelligent insight into the current situation in the Ukraine is or was remarkable then we have different standards of remarkable. What would have been (and still would be) remarkable would be if our political leaders could present a strategic principle from which it would be easy to see how the US pursues its self-interests effectively and how to leverage Russia’s actions in the Ukraine to our advantage. There were better ways for America to deal with the Ukrainian situation that we have used, but none of them are the ones that any of our politicians have advocated (including Mitt). Its the failure of our political leaders, including Mitt, that we should be concerned are Americas problems. Saying that we should have done something different in the past is the style of leadership that I expect; but it doesnt show a proper understanding of the laws of physics applied from where you are not from where you were.
