If my music career was exactly where I want it to be, there are 5 things I want to do: (If everyone who has been interested and involved is still interested in being involved, your name is already on the list) 1. Ska Band - I want an 8-piece (or more) ska band. Instrumentation should include: Vocalist - EVERYBODY!!! Guitar - George Shepherd & Jonathan Lima Bass - Thomas Szypulski Keyboards - Derek Bee Drums - Bruce Wassel Alto/Tenor Saxophone - Tim Smith & James Varner Baritone Saxophone - Brannon Betelgeuse Bollinger Trumpet - Josh Sharpie Riot Grove Trombone - Jeremy Danger Boomhower Fortunately for me, I have this in Archbishops of Blount Street, The Rockit Pops, John Willses Upstartin All-Stars, and Regatta 69 - Brian Hill, and I have enough players to keep this goal checked off for as long as I want. 2. Funk Band - This one is 2-part. I want a small group of musicians that form a small funk/fusion ensemble that serves as the core of a larger soul band. Instrumentation should include: Vocalist - Alice Abed Keyboards - Bass - Jeremy Boomhower Drums - Gary Mitchell Saxophone - Brannon Bollinger Guitar (large soul band) - 2nd Saxophone (large soul band) - Trumpet - Trombone - Again, Im fortunate enough to have Funktion as the basis for this situation. Im still working to cobble together the larger group. 3. Jazz Big Band - I REALLY want a 20-piece Big Band. I want to do more than just dance tunes like In The Mood and Sing, Sing, Sing. I want to play Ellington, Basie, and Gillespie compositions as well as Nestico and Niehaus arrangements. I would need all these players: Vocalist - Kendra Nicole Adams Piano - Guitar - Upright Bass (both Upright and Bass Guitar preferred) - Drums - 5 Trumpets - 5 Trombones - 2 Alto Saxophones - 2 Tenor Saxophones - Baritone Saxophone - Brannon Bollinger I could even splinter off a combo from this large ensemble. That could be fun. 4. Saxophone Quartet - Quartet music is so much fun, and there are so many opportunities for saxophone quartet - we could play serious concerto literature, chamber music, jazz arrangements, holiday tunes, or pop/rock arrangements. Maybe even all of the above! I would need: Soprano/1st Alto Saxophone - Jordan K. Potter 2nd Alto Saxophone - Tenor Saxophone - JR Varner Baritone Saxophone - Brannon Bollinger I even have some 4 Alto arrangements. Anything is possible. 5. Solo Saxophone - I need to get back into playing, and hopefully performing, some classical, contemporary, and jazz solo pieces. Its something I havent done since college, and I really didnt do much of it in college. Personnel needs are small for this, but practice time would be the biggest challenge for me. For this, I need: Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Baritone Saxophone - Brannon Bollinger Piano - Ive already started revisiting some of the repertoire from my days in the UNC music department, and Ive played a few holiday busking gigs around the Triangle. Id love to add Wind Ensemble and Musical Theatre Pit Orchestra to this list, but I dont have the time to run every one of these organizations (as much as Id like to be). There seem to be many open positions in these groups. I could never guarantee any money for any of these projects, as hard as I would try to make sure everyone gets paid an equal amount from every appearance or recording. Id love to fill in the blanks, so whos with me???
