If one could approximate skill difference between two players, you - TopicsExpress

If one could approximate skill difference between two players, you would find gaps, gaps that dont necessarily explain the prevalence of last game, last stock, last hit situations. I think that either the better player plays worse, or the worse player plays better, or both, but somehow we tend to synchronize and pace ourselves subconsciously. Ive heard D1 and Prog talk about how controlling the pace of the match is one of the highest level things you can do. I think which characters are fighting is a factor too. Offensive vs defensive, reactive play vs proactive play. You can tell when the dynamic between two players has switched. There are players that command this unseen force, and players that can break out of it, and play mind games at this level. The depth of this game is incredible. The amount of mental clarity it demands to operate on these levels, or even hope to, and the amount of reflection and analysis of yourself, and others, required to get out of bad habits and mistakes carries over in to real life. Which is true of any discipline I suppose... everything is kung fu
