>` If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalms 11 vs 3 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A FOUNDATION? Websters Dictionary defines foundation this way: The fundamental principal on which something is founded. Each one of us has a foundation. From it, we base everything we believe (our bias), see and do. For example: Two people are looking at the same object. When discussing the object, they both come up with opposing ideals. This is because their foundations are different. WHICH IS THE CORRECT FOUNDATION? As a Christian, our foundation is the Word of God. Paul tells us in I Corinthians 3 vs 11 who that foundation is. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Our society says that there are many foundations to build on. You need to find the one that is right for you. But Gods word tells us: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it. Matthew 7 : 13 - 14 There are only two paths of life. The broad way, which most people follow, provides many foundations. God groups them together in one path that leads to destruction. Then there is the narrow path, which few find. During the days of Noah, the people of the world were chasing after their own lusts. The Word of God tells us: And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth...( Genesis 6 vs 5 ). Because of them doing their own thing, God sent a worldwide flood and destroyed every living thing on the land except for Noah and his family. Of over a billion people, only eight survived. Jesus tells us that the last days will be just like the days of Noah (Matthew 24). When we have the right foundation, God gives discernment thru His word that the world cannot see because they live in darkness. HOW DOES ONE GET THE CORRECT FOUNDATION? Gods word says, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Proverbs 3 : 5 - 7. What does it mean to Trust in the Lord ?. It means we follow His way, because his word says to. Years ago, the Southern Baptist made an attempt to return to their Biblical foundations as a whole. They claimed to support the Biblical principal that wives should submit to their husbands, as well as other principals that they did not reinforce. As a result, there was an outrage among their organization. They forgot that they are supposed to trust in the Lord in all areas in their life. One of the members, who was a former President of the United States, said that he could not belong to that group anymore. He publicly rejected the foundation of Gods Word in this area. He will have to answer to God alone. I am not saying that people who do not follow after the principals of God are not Christian, but the more we follow our own ways, the more we become carnal and therefore ignorant of Gods plan. Gods word tells us: For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8 : 6 - 8. In all thy ways acknowledge Him In every area of your life, know what Gods Word has to say on the subject and follow it. For example in our culture today, there is such a push for our young women to go to college, have a career in business and be their own person. If they get married and it doesnt work out, then they have something to fall back on. My question is: Is that the direction our Lord gives us in scripture? How do we find out His ways? First, we need to look at all references in scripture pertaining to this area. Then we follow that path. When a society departs from the ways of God it makes it harder to trust in the Lord and walk in faith in that direction. We may sometimes be lead astray by those that claim to follow Gods way. Do not be surprised if Gods direction is opposite of what society teaches. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil . When we do things that go against Gods way, not only are we limiting ourselves to what God can do with our lives, but we are affecting the lives of those around us. If God is our creator, He knows us and has given us talents to be used. Dont you think His way is best? Remember Gods warning, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14 vs 12. Let History be our example. The one thing we learn from history is that we dont learn from history! In Joshuas day, Israel saw all the things God had done for them. When Joshua and all the elders died, there arose a new generation that knew not the Lord nor the things He had done for Israel. Martin Luther discovered in the scriptures that the just shall live by faith. The majority of the church in his day wanted his life. This doctrine was against the accepted teaching at that time. It is the foundational principal in which all men and women need to know concerning their salvation. As a society, when our way of life contrasts the way of the Lord, we are being deceived. When our forefathers came to this land, they came with the ideal of founding a Christian nation. Yes, we were far from perfect, but our nation was heading in the right direction. Today, our colleges and universities teach Darwins Theory of Evolution. Darwin, who wrote the book Origin of the Species, was a racist and built his whole foundation of this theory on ideals that were wrong. This was because he rejected a Biblical foundation. Darwin received a degree in Theology, but built a false philosophy that was built on mans ideals. It is so important that we build a Biblical foundation for our families and ourselves. Jesus said : Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:? And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Matthew 7: 24 - 29 WHAT IS YOUR FOUNDATION? Is it built on the Rock or on the sand?
