If then God gave them the same gift he gave to us when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God? There is really no room for envy within the Christian community, but even so, it shows up. It shows up when a young singer with a gorgeous voice joins an established choir. It shows up when a catechumen exhibits a gift for theological discourse. It shows up when a newly ordained priest draws a crowd. Young folks: Be respectful! There is much to learn from the wisdom of your elders. Old folks: Move over and share the space! We each bring to the Church our different gifts. All are given; all are called to share. God is still speaking and God is in charge. For the gift of humility and wisdom as we tend to the important task of building the kingdom and proclaiming the good news.
