With the Earth passing through the dust of numerous comets, the possibility of a repeat of the Black Death scenario is higher. Keep in mind that particulate matter deposited in the upper layers of the earths atmosphere can take up to two years to filter down to the troposphere where humans can then be contaminated. But, this has been going on for awhile as we know from the increasing incidence of Comet Smoke AKA Noctilucent Clouds.
