If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not - TopicsExpress

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:8-9 While watching a senate hearing about a certain lady who helped certain politicians siphon money from the government, I cant help but notice the difference in the expressions of the accused and the witnesses who came out to testify against her and the lawmakers involved. Almost anyone watching the proceedings can tell that the defendant was lying especially when she would deny the allegations without qualifying her answer to prove her innocence. In contrast, the witnesses would answer questions very easily withoutu as much as batting an eyelash. Their statements, in fact, complemented one another and were backed-up with much evidence. The lady is living a lie and she knows it. Its only a matter of time before she faces the consequences of her actions. If she would just tell the truth she could spare herself from a lot of trouble. Being in denial is self-deception. John says that if you think that you are fooling others by denying that you have sinned, think again! You are really fooling yourself because you are living a lie. Sin is not something to hide because it grows and it harms the one committing it along with others closest to the person. It has to be dealt with in the open with others who are willing to help you let go of it. And the only way to let go is by confessing it. Proverbs 28:13 tells us why it is important to expose and confess sin. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. We can never prosper with sin. Though it may help us in the short term, it will take away everything weve gained and more in the end. But when sin is confessed and given up, we find mercy from the One who is willing to show mercy. Verse 9 of our 1 John 1 tells us that the Lord is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us. But the prerequisite to that forgiveness is confession. As difficult as it is to admit that we are wrong, admission of our sin frees us up from a heavy burden that we were never meant to carry in the first place. Let us keep short accounts with the Lord so that we can live our lives in the truth and not in a lie. If you are living in sin, you know that youre living in a lie. Confess your sin to the Lord first and foremost. He loves you and He will faithfully forgive you when you confess your sins. Next, you need someone to help you get back to living in the truth. Pray for someone to share your struggles with. Look for someone who loves you enough to keep you accountable and humble enough not to condemn you. This is the day to stop fooling yourself and start being truthful.
