If you are out and about in Santa Fe, make sure to stop by PetSmart Santa Fe and meet some loving animals at this fun event: Get your kicks and adopt a pet. The sixth annual Get Your Kicks on Route 66 plans to stop in Santa Fe on Sunday with lots of adoptable pets and a chance to win dozens of prizes. The tour, which promotes homeless animals and animal shelters, is partnering with the Santa Fe Animal Shelter for an adoption event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, at PetSmart Santa Fe, 3561 Zafarano Drive. Hosted by FIDO Friendly magazine and sponsored by Ford, Pet Botanics, Canine Covers, Red Barn Naturals, Pets Best pet insurance and Animal Radio, the tour runs from California to Chicago along Route 66. This year the events are made even more special by the many companies who have donated products to be used as prizes for a large spinning wheel, organizers said. Those who want to spin the wheel can donate $2 per spin with proceeds going to the shelter that day. With a minimum donation of $10, participants receive a complimentary one-year digital subscription to FIDO Friendly magazine, along with the magazine’s bumper sticker, Leave No Dog Behind. The tour, which started Sept. 13 in Los Angeles with an appearance by actress, author and dog lover Danica McKellar, plans 16 stops along the route that ends in Chicago.
