If you ban flights because of Ebola, you might as well ban travel entirely. People entering the U.S. from countries in west Africa usually fly here from countries outside Africa. Unless the U.S. is trackong the movements of every person worldwide you cant tell which inbound passengers have been to west Africa. Also, Ebola is hard to pass from person to person without direct contact with significant amounts of fluid. Those with Ebola usually handled the body of a relative who died from the disease, a custom not practiced here. In fact, right now more exponentially people are dying from other diseases caught on flights, like lung infections, pneumonia and flu, than are dying of Ebola worldwide. If youre afraid of catching Ebola from someone whos been on an airplane, youre ignoring the far more realistic threat from far more dangerous diseases, and youve been doing just fine the whole time.
