******There are No Paid Lunches in Air Canada-Part 1***** My recent trip to India last Thursday has been the most horrifying one for many reasons. It all started with the stupid flight attendant in the flight from Edmonton to Calgary refusing to allow my Sarangi citing lack of availability of space inside the aircraft as the reason. That idiot wanted me to put my Sarangi with the rest of the baggage inside the belly of the aircraft. When I refused to do that saying it is a delicate instrument, they gave all kinds of bullshit reasons suchas we will put fragile tag on it etc and I was made to stand in cold outside the aircraft in -6 C for more than 15 minutes despite me cautioning them that I am wearing just a thin dhoti, a t-shirt and only sandals that did not cover my feet and that I might fall sick. One of them asked me to enter the aircraft and the other immediately pushed me out and another flight attendant tried to snatch the Sarangi from my hands. At this point when I refused to budge, they called the security personnel to forcefully deboard me from the aircraft. Later I was asked to go to the counter near the gate where they tendered a perfunctory apology and gave me a pass for 4 PM flight instead of 3 PM. All this was happening when they very well knew that I had an international flight to catch from Calgary at 6 PM. I eventually made it at the nick of the moment to reach the gate in Calgary on time and boarded the flight. During the Calgary-Frankfurt flight the flight attendant served me lunch and said FA: Sir, I have beef and salad for you. Enjoy the meal. Lord: What :-o ? I have placed request for special meal called Asian veg Jain meal. Without any regard or remorse or whatsoever he replied I am sorry sir, we dont have anymore vegetarian meals left. I cannot help you. Then I asked him if there is someone above him who I could talk to. He said there is one person and she is busy. Lord: Ask her to meet me immediately. At the same time give me a complaint form which I want to fill and bring this issue to the notice of the concerned people. After a while he came back and said The complaint form is online sir. My superior will meet you in 8 minutes. Do you want me to starve till then I asked him persistently. I am sorry sir, I cannot help you he replied coldly and walked off. The superior was a super nice lady. She apologized for the inconvenience and said she will arrange for my lunch from the first class. The guy was so pissed off and almost threw the food plate at me. The salad in the plate had Crew pack written on it. In 5 minutes one senior lady came up to me and said If you are done, can I take the crew plate sir? Not sure if this was some kind of a racism. I had the same problem in Frankfurt - Bangalore flight too except that the attendant was an extremely nice lady, she immediately made arrangement for the vegetarian meal. So who said there are no free lunches in this world? There are not even paid lunches. @Those in the North America: I want your advice. What should I do if I need to take legal action against these bastards for the raw ordeal that I went through. I have the call logs of my call to their customer care which I called twice to confirm if the special meal request has been in place. The ticket allows me to carry two hand baggage and my Sarangi is within the specified size and weight limits. Yours Truly Lord Deepak (PBUM) P.S: Part 2 will be about some really interesting and wonderful experiences that I had during the flight.
