If you care about corruption or malpractice in your city, please take a moment to read this. My brother in law Rees Smith has been fighting the good fight for over a year now, trying to have something done about a situation which is blatantly wrong, yet occurs right beneath our noses due to the untouchability of Government departments. It has cost him his job and caused many sleepless nights, but he continues to do what is right. Behind you all the way Rees. 1 year ago today, The Border Mail reported one of numerous occurrences of corruption and illegal behaviours that had occurred (and mostly with RMS hierarchy knowledge) at the direction of a leading staff member at Albury RMS. I was advised that unfortunately due to legal reasons, The Border Mail would not fully report what I had disclosed to it. Dont get me wrong, I cannot thank The Border Mail enough for reporting what it had. Which was the bullying and the unlawful retention of, or lets call it for what it really was - theft, of driving test booking fees from those who are most vulnerable - minors under the age of 18. The theft of driving test booking fees was not exclusive to minors under the age of 18. It happened to those over 18 also. Sadly, this was not the worst occurrence of the endangerment of a minor at the Albury motor registry. Unlike The Border Mail however, for me setting right over wrong precedes any perceived or actual legal reasons. I have at length reported numerous corrupt and illegal behaviours at the direction of a leading staff member at Albury RMS not only to The Border Mail, but also to the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, the NSW Minister for Roads and Freight, and to the RMS itself. And what was the outcome to all this. To bury the issues raised and me along with it. The RMS have attempted to destroy me in the meat grinder of the bureaucracy. For standing up against the lies, corruption and illegal behaviours I had been subjected to and had witnessed, what was the RMS response? To fire me. And who was the person that fired me? Only the director in charge of compliance of the RMS. Nice coverup RMS, get the person responsible for fighting corruption and illegal behaviours that occur within the organisation to fire me for reporting the ACTUAL occurrences of corruption and unlawful behaviour at Albury RMS. No conflict of interest there - much. Some may argue that is corrupt in itself. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly in this post, to every single young person who was wrongly (unlawfully) rejected from conducting a driving test at Albury RMS over the non existent rules of whiteout use in learner driver log books and the wrong interpretation of what constitutes night time driving (all at the direction of a leading staff member) - demand your test fees that you were wrongly denied, to be refunded by the RMS. The RMS, and knowingly to RMS head office, had stolen your money. The RMS denied it in this article but anyone that had anything to do with driver testing at Albury, be it yourself as an applicant, be it yourself as mum and/or dad coming in supporting your young one or be it an accompanying driving instructor, know the truth of the matter. The RMS response in this article was mostly a bold faced lie. Your money was unlawfully taken from you by the RMS. Demand it back! Were you disadvantaged because you were unlawfully denied a service that is accepted everywhere else in the state other than Albury? Was your career path, secondary or tertiary education delayed because you were refused the service of a driving test that you were legally entitled to, and met the full criteria to conduct? Did you outlay the expense of driving lessons and an instructors vehicle prior to your booking that was wrongly refused by Albury RMS? I would be demanding more than your test booking fee back from the RMS. Anybody who has been wrongly refused a driving test at Albury in regards to this post or the attached The Border Mail article are more than welcome to PM me if you are seeking some form of clarification to your own situation. I cannot offer you legal advice, but I can offer any advice or clarification of driver testing requirements (at that time) that you were wrongly rejected from conducting. For 16 years I was a model employee right up to the end. Excellent work record. Worked at many levels in the organisation, including managing a busy Sydney motor registry for an extended period of time, and what is both the RMS organisation and NSW government response for blowing the whistle a number of issues, the worst being the failure of a leading RMS employee to protect minors under the age of 18? Fire me. You think this cant happen in this day and age? It just did. What now? Right the wrong. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and its attached article from The Border Mail. Please share, it is important to right this wrong. A number of people must be held to account with the RMS and the NSW state government for what has happened to you.
