If you choose magic you will never be able to return to the life - TopicsExpress

If you choose magic you will never be able to return to the life you once lived. Your world may be more… exciting… but it will also be more dangerous. Less reliable. And once you begin to walk the path of magic, you can never step off of it. Or, you can choose the path of science, of rationality. Live in a normal world. Die a normal death. Less exciting, undoubtedly. But safer. …It is your choice Timothy. Always and forever your choice. The Books of Magic, by Neil Gaiman --- Good evening, Heroes of Vantacor. This particular missive is directed towards those whose talents lay in the arcane arts - my apologies to those whom that excludes, but your services are not required. Those who wield magic however - who fling magic from their very fingertips, using it against their enemies in all kinds of glorious, spectacular ways - you are the ones I wish to speak to. Let us be clear. To be gifted with the art of magic is a rare and beautiful thing; there is no greater joy than to feel the raw energy of the universe crackling between your fingertips, summoned through your intellect and controlled by your will. I will always remember the first time I felt lightning crackle in my palm. This gift, however, comes at a price. Magic, while frequently a blessing, can be a burden. A magician who does not know what they are doing can injure their allies - a sorcerer who does not consider the consequences of their actions may open a portal to the nightmare realm. And with various enchantments, scrolls, and artefacts - to say nothing of the legendary Dragon Scrolls - in existence, it is everyones responsibility to protect this realm. And it is the duty of those strong enough to teach those who are not, so that they can assist in the burden. I attempt to observe as many sorcerers as I can to ensure theyre acting with wisdom, but Im afraid our numbers are too great for that to be the wisest course of action. There have been establishments and councils for those who wield magic before, though theyve all been destroyed by war. I intend to form another - one thats open to anyone within Vantacor who wishes to improve their art. I believe I may have some things to learn from these young spellcasters, as well. Elizabeth Lawson
