If you dont know what net neutrality is, thats ok. Ill explain it to you. Essentially, ISPs (Comcast, Verizon, TW cable) want the ability to limit their bandwidth to content providers online, in a vague attempt to shake down companies (or people) they feel overuse their physical infrastructure. That type of shake down could be used against anyone they want, and theyve been doing it over the last few years to get more money out of them. There was a graph going around a while back, of the average download speeds of a netflix user on different ISPs, and in the throws of a battle where Comcast was trying to get more money out of netflix, their speeds on Comcast networks were unbelievably low in comparison to their speeds prior to the dispute, and with the ISPs they werent in a legal battle with. It simply cannot stand Cable, and internet companies have too much power as it is, and its up to us to draw the line. They monopolize their services, eradicate any illusion of competition, and usually work together to not compete for areas, limiting your ability to even have a choice, or to impose any standard on their service. You can write to your Representatives and Senators, you can call their offices, and voice your disdain for their practices, and you can threaten to actively, and vocally campaign against any legislator who would vote to give more power to companies that already have us by the throat. Weve spent the last century being slowly and secretly over taken by people who put millions into politicians pockets in exchange for their blind support. YOU have to remind your representatives and senators that they work for you, and not for the highest bidder. They were elected by people, not money. And its their duty to represent the will of the population they claim to represent. If they dont, you need to do all you can to make them understand that they might have corporate backing, and fat lobbyists checks, but they live and die by our votes. Nothing frightens the corrupt more than the just rising up against them, and showing them that their power is derived from the people they spit on. Take a minute, and stand up to such brazen corruption. If we continue to be passive about our legislative process, and elect people, and then hand them the wheel, and fall asleep, were going to wake up lost. Dont be an accessory to the crimes that Corporatism and Lobbying are trying to commit. Stand up for yourselves, and show the corrupt that if they continue to pander to those who only serve themselves, and their wallets, they will prod a sleeping giant into exorcising them from their posts. Dont accept that government and corruption go hand in hand. They are very much separate constructs. What we as a public need to do, is fight to separate them again, and push to actively punish those who would undermine humanity to pad their profit margin. If you dont realize that were in a fight for the very soul of this nation, and planet, realize it now. Youre on the losing side, and its only losing because it doesnt have the voice, or the support it needs. Contribute to that voice, and you might just see the tide start to turn.
