If you guys want to watch a great movie that talks about the gender binary system, watch Bend It Like Beckham! Credits to Adrija for telling me about this brilliant film. =) This is a story of a Pakistani girl named Jess who wants to play for a womens football team in Europe, but her parents forbid her from playing because, essentially, its unladylike. She goes against their wishes and has to hide playing soccer from her family while at the same time has to prepare for her older sisters wedding, in which she has to behave in all the ways she hates. It discusses a lot of the domestic roles brown women are locked into and some of the stereotypes that are associated with girls who play sports (aka, ALL OF THEM ARE BUTCH LESBIANS EW, aka, entirely wrong). Anyway, its a super awesome and funny movie!! I highly recommend it, and Im sure Adrija does too haha. I was watching the movie on the train ride to New York today, and the lady next to me was so confused as to why I was laughing so much. :P Im so hooked.
