If you have been to Taiwan before, or you have Taiwanese friends, I know you love Taiwan and you got impressed by our people, and our culture, our food, our friendly surrounding. And I know its very hard to understand the complicated issue, history, story between Taiwan and China if youre not Taiwanese or Chinese. But, please, it only takes your 5 mins to know what exactly going on right now, my friends. ==== Since 10:00pm on Tuesday till now, we – a group of students and civic organizations in Taiwan– have occupied the Legislature in protest against the undemocratic and autocratic manner of a passed trade agreement between Taiwan and China. In these days, more than 30,000 non-partisan protestors each day, which consist of students, doctors, lawyers, civil activists, academics, and all people from various walks of life, have joined the protest each night. The attendance of the protesters is growing larger and larger day by day. Here, we represent those who are angry, upset, and frustrated with the unfairness of the Cross-Strait Services Trade Agreement between Taiwan and China, the secrecy of the government during the signing procedure, and close-door negotiation. This important agreement shows little limitation to the Chinese service industry, financial business, and communication industry, which are estimated the result of highly reliant to China of Taiwan’s economy and serious influence of national security. These may lead Taiwan to be China’s sphere of influence in the final We feel that this important agreement – which can impact the lives of millions of Taiwanese – needs to be completely rejected by the parliament. However, the ruling party broke their promise for a bipartisan and clause-by-clause review, yet they rammed it through the committee stage in less than 30 seconds instead. We hope that you will support us in our fight against an autocratic government; a government that – in violation of public opinion – are willing to forge closer ties with a big and undemocratic neighbor that can impact Taiwan’s fledging democracy. We simply and peacefully request the government: revoke the agreement, which will bind our economy to China; pass a bill to ensure that future agreements between Taiwan and China receive the proper scrutiny. We hope that you can send us a small statement of support – why it is important for citizens to stand up for our country’s democratic future. Your message will mean so much to the people here, standing outside on the streets of Taipei, hoping for a better future. Its very sad to see our government became like this. And we feel broken heart to see whatever is happening now. We need more support from you. We love Taiwan, its our home.
