If you have clear skies, more or less immediately after sunset tonight you will probably be treated to a wee Aurora Australis (thanks Ferg) display. Look to the South & the best views will be from hills, coastal or a long off horizon. BZ -14 negative is critical & very impressive. A lot of my Aurora pics have only BZ -2 negative - so go on have a sneaky look. The horizon will be pinkish, yellow orange or Greenish. Probably best south of South Island, but you never know - Island Bay in Wgtn might work, Birdlings Flat in ChCh, Port Hills, Even in Hoki etc look to Mt Cook or directly down the coast.
