If you have ever had a photography session with me, please read. Even if you havent ever had one with me please read. Thanks :) My Photography Journey Today I took some of my photography props over to the Church to donate for their yard sale this weekend. They are raising money for a mission trip to Africa. As I was on my way home I was thinking about my photography journey. It is kind of bitter sweet, but I can honestly say, I do not miss it one bit. Oh, dont get me wrong, I am still going to be doing photography, I just will not be photographing people anymore. I will be furthering my career in the historical direction and focusing mainly on the Civil War Era. I am very excited about this. Yesterday I took one more step and deleted my Cheryl Rae Photography page from Facebook, and last night I went through my Pinterest boards and deleted all the photography boards that I had. It was a little sad knowing that that part of my life is over, but I know Im on the right path in my life and Im going to enjoy what my future holds next even better. I started my journey in February 2011 when my amazing husband saw a potential in me and believed in my dream, and bought me a Canon EOS 60D. I was so excited I could not wait to get my camera. I read the instruction book from front to back. Thats probably the only time Ive ever read an instruction manual. Now all I needed to do was get started. I made a couple of phone calls and even begged some people to let me take pictures of them. Over the years I have had the pleasure of taking pictures for some amazing families. Some of those families have become close friends and one turned out to be one of my best friends ( yes, Lana Im speaking of you lol). I have even fell in love with some of the families and adopted them and their kids as part of my family. I have had the pleasure of being in the hospital and photographing the birth of babies and crying a long with the family as that beautiful baby was passed around the room to meet the extended family. I had the opportunity to photograph two beautiful women from 8 weeks of pregnancy to the time that precious baby was born. Then I got to photograph those cherished babies and watch them grow. I was asked to do a breastfeeding session by a friend, and to me that was my favorite session. I was introduced to the love between a mother and a child and the bond that breastfeeding can form between the two. That precious baby boy looked at his mother with all the love one person can hold. I was awe struck during that shoot. In 2011 I got to stand on my front porch in a horrified state as I snapped pictures of an F5 tornado that ripped through the landscape and destroyed homes and lives. I got to photograph some of the most beautiful brides and even had one bridezilla. Even though she was a horrible bride she taught me what to do and what not to do. In May 2013 I did a fund raiser for a family that their Dad had cancer. That family was an amazing family and I met so many wonderful and caring people that fought the cold and rain to help someone in need. Three weeks after that he lost his battle with cancer and I grieved with the family for the loss of such an amazing man. Finally, I got to take pictures of my niece as she journeyed through school from all kinds of ball games, to proms, to senior portraits to her graduation, where I didnt know if I was gonna be able to take a shot for crying. The journey I have been on over the past three years has held many different emotions for me. Ive laughed and Ive cried but I wouldnt change it for nothing. Every single person that has ever booked me to do any kind of pictures for you I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget any of yall.
