If you listen to this womans argument through to the very end, her point is driven by a reality I have argued but without such a forceful and clearly logical conclusion! I hear so many people, myself included, guarding our speech for fear of being insensitive to the billions of peaceful members of any given group, and especially with regard to Muslims. If you look at our own history in the US, slave owners and those willing to fight and die to maintain the practice of and laws protecting the practice of slavery, it was a relatively small group of US citizens as a whole, but the non-slave owing population were completely irrelevant to those held in slavery. We have to see this clearly for what it is. Slavery was not an evil perpetrated by all US citizens but until all of those in the country rose up against it, slavery was a torturous reality for the population of slaves here. But many were complicit due to their silence. In fact most were complicit due to their silence and unwillingness to stand against what was clearly wrong. The same is true of this current menace. From generation to generation the name and face of evil on the earth changes, but the enemy remains, and at this time, in much of the world, that enemy is radical, fundamentalist, and terrorist groups of people who happen to be Muslim, intent on destroying anything that does not fit in with their view of a good or righteous world. All of the millions and millions of wonderful peaceful Muslims in the world are irrelevant to the destruction of those radicals who lay claim to all of Islam. Recently in Iraq the radicals returned to take back the country and in their statements said, We represent all Muslims. All of Islam answers to us. While all of us know that this is not true, and in a recent conversation with a man who is Muslim, he became quite animated in his repulsion to that statement, They are not my people, they do not speak my mind for me. Those people are dogs and God will judge them for what they are doing. The man I was talking to is a person who is here in this country as a political refugee and actually comes from a country where Muslims of his ethnicity are in the majority but the minority Christian population is in control, yet he has no animosity toward Christians or even for the ethnic group who controls his home country. He does harbor animosity to the radical group in his country who have taken control of the government there. I remain vague about his country and the groups to protect his privacy and am trying to make a greater point. It is a small group of people in his country who have made the greater group of good people irrelevant in the discussion about what should happen to the radical few. Hundreds of thousands of girls and women suffer lives of forced supplication to a version of Islam that a relatively few radical and fundamentalist practitioners believe to be the truth found in the Koran.Kidnappings, mutilations, forced marriages, rapes on the battlefield, and the bombings and killings of innocent civilian die at their hands. It is up the the billions of the rest of us to say This is not OK and we will remain neither silent, nor will we answer your slaughter with peaceful co-existence. We do not war against Islam.
