If you live in a temperate zone, your Vitamin D levels may well be - TopicsExpress

If you live in a temperate zone, your Vitamin D levels may well be very low right now unless you have supplemented through the winter. The optimum way to get enough Vitamin D is through UV-B sunlight on the skin, being careful of course, that one doesnt overdo it with the damaging UV-A. UV-B is not available until the sun rises to 50° above the horizon so if you live more than 40° North in the northern hemisphere, its still not available to you as of today. How do you find out when it is available? Find out your locations co-ordinates in degrees and MINUTES from dateandtime.info/index.php Go to the NASA website with the two co-ordinates in degrees and MINUTES, and enter them with your time zone difference and calculate the time and duration for when the ALTITUDE of the sun is greater than 50°. So for British Summer Time (BST) you can add an hour to the calculated GMT result OR entering 1 hour east of Greenwich the table will show times in BST. For example: Deganwy (UK) gives the co-ordinates: 3 degrees 49 minutes West 53 degrees 18 minutes North Gives the suns maximum ALTITUDE today as 41°3 between 13:10 and 13:30 In fact, no UV-B is available until 22nd April.
