If you missed Tech Tuesday this morning with Glen, here are a few topics talked about. Tech News: Apple has quietly updated its entire Retina MacBook Pro line of laptops with faster processors and more memory, while leaving the prices mostly the same as before. The most powerful 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display processor has gone from 2.6GHz to 2.8GHz, dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and 512GB of storage. The other two 13-inch Retinas have both gone from 2.4GHz to 2.6GHz i5 processor and 8GB of memory, with the difference between them being storage memory. The pricing for these two models is the same as before. On the 15-inch front, the two models have both also had processor upgrades and one of them a RAM upgrade from 8GB to 16Gb. All of the new Retinas are now available to order with us in store. The upgrade will help Apples top laptops handle the hardware demands of the new OS X 10.10 Yosemite, which is expected to be released in the fall. Tech Tips: With SIRI you can assign tags to people you have in contacts and make it quicker to call people. For example to make a call press and hold the home button & say ‘call my wife’ it then automatically picks up your wife’s name and calls straight away. Or say ‘call my brother’ and your brother’s name gets picked up and calls automatically. To do this; Go to contacts> pick a contact> edit> add field> go to nickname & type in a descriptive name then press done. Then when you go to call someone use the nickname. This is great if you use SIRI to call and you have multiple contacts with the same name, or SIRI doesn’t recognize a difficult name. Tech Service: I wanted to talk about a great service we offer, Full System Backups. We have a lot of customers coming in with computers running slow or not booting up at all. This is usually due to a faulty or damaged hard drive. When the information on a hard drive cannot be recovered due to severe damage, the customer has basically lost everything they had on the computer. While most people will have backups of their photos or music, it’s not quite enough to start over fresh on a new computer. With our FULL SYSTEM BACKUP service, we take a complete backup of the entire computer. So; • We backup The operating system that runs the computer • We backup all the programs used on the computer • We backup any financials, files and documents • We backup Photos, music, emails, contacts This FULL SYSTEM BACKUP is essential for businesses that are updating files regularly or individuals and families that have a lot of memorable or important items they never want to lose. This backup is to be kept on a separate hard drive and not used for anything else. Keep it at your mums or in safe, away from anyone to grab it. We encourage anyone that values there computer system to come in and let the team perform a full backup. Listen out for more news, tips and products every Tuesday on 99.7Star FM between 7.30-8am
