If you stay on the Outer Banks, expect power to be out for several - TopicsExpress

If you stay on the Outer Banks, expect power to be out for several days, much flooding of roadways creating traffic problems, many trees and power lines down. In short, a real hassle. The worst flooding will be sound side flooding early tomorrow morning. Breaches on the Oceanside will occur in Kitty Hawk, south Nags Head, and many spots on Hatteras Island. Serious sound side flooding is likely around Manteo and Hatteras Island. Will this blow down houses? No! Cosmetic damage means some siding blown off, trees on houses, few windows broken by blowing debris. Winds will gust to 90-100 mph between 4 and 6am. It has been many, many years since the most populated areas of the Outer Banks has seen this type of storm damage. It will be compounded by the several hundred thousand tourists on this narrow strip of land. Severe beach erosion will limit the fun on the beaches the rest of the holiday weekend. I see no reason to change any of my forecast that I stated several hours ago for the Hampton Roads region. Sorry I can not answer individual questions about other specific areas. I will begin my devotions again tomorrow. Thanks for all of the nice words of encouragement.
