If you want to get the most out out of your Bible, try the following tips: 1.Pray before and after reading your Bible. Every time you open your Bible, pray. Pray that God opens your heart and mind to His Word. Pray after reading also. Take a moment to pray that God’s Word will bear fruit in your life so that you can become a true disciple. 2.Understand that the Bible is a collection of books, written by various authors and inspired by God. You have to know the authors, the genres and the objectives of the various writings in order to fully understand the context of the teachings. 3.Read the whole Bible, not just scripture here and there. Realize that parts of scripture don’t always give the full context. You need to know how the part relates to the whole…and you can only really do this by reading the whole Bible! 4.Understand the value of the Old Testament and the New Testament, as well as how they relate to each other. Jesus read the Old Testament and He referred to it in the New Testament, so read both and you’ll get a better understanding of God’s plan for us. 5.Realize that God speaks to you through scripture. It’s not just a bunch of writing written to people of that time. It’s God’s Word. It’s consistent and it never changes, so it relates to YOU. Try to understand what God is saying to you! 6.Don’t twist scripture to fit your own personal agenda. The Bible is God’s Word and it reflects His agenda for us. So if you manipulate it to meet your personal needs, then you’re missing the Truth that leads to salvation. 7.Live the Word. Don’t just read God’s Word; live it out in your own life and share it with others. You’ll never understand the strength of God’s Word or know its truth if you don’t implement the teachings in your own life. 8.Read every day. The Bible should be a part of your everyday life. Only then can you allow the Truth to penetrate within you and become a part of who you are. Only then can you grow deeper in your relationship with Christ!
