If you will indulge me for a few minutes. I would like to give - TopicsExpress

If you will indulge me for a few minutes. I would like to give thanks to every service man and woman, who has picked up the rifle in defense of there country, and to give my eternal thanks to those that have giving their lives, in body, soul, and mind, and special acknowledgement to those who gave all, and to their families who have mourned service men and women who have not come back. This acknowledgment is also extended to the families and folks that have mourned with, cared for and especially listened to a Veteran. At the end of the movie (also a great novel) The Bridges At Toko Ri, the question is asked Where do we get such men? I ask that same question, Where do we as a nation get such men and women? I havent an answer, as my courage, and love of country cannot be compared to such men and women, who have voluntarily or involuntarily, put down the pen and picked up the rifle for there love of country, and freedom. To all Veterans you have my eternal thanks, awe, and respect. I would particularly wish to mention the following men that I have had the great fortune to learn from: My great uncles who served in World War One - Harry Ashworth, who was a medic in the US Army Leo Ashworth, who was a sharpshooter in the US Army Ellerby Ashworth, who was an infantryman in the US Army, survived a gas attack, but suffered from respiratory problems for the rest of his life. In World War Two: My Grandfather Sergeant Walter Ashworth who served as mechanics instructor in the US Army. In the Vietnam War: My cousin Specialist Ronald Jay Peters who served as a medic in the 4th Infantry Division and also with the 2nd Civil Affairs, 2nd Field Force. My cousin Ronald on April 18, 1971 was killed in action. He will always be by our side, and in our hearts. Most importantly to me is my father Corporal John Peters USMC. My father was drafted into the Marine Corps to say by surprise would be a great understatement, but nonetheless in 1969 entered the Marine Corp, trained as a Combat Engineer he was assigned to a helicopter Squadron HMM-164, serving on Yankee Station in Vietnam. I have great respect for these men and cannot even begin how to imagine a fitting gesture of thanks for there service. To all Veterans I thank you, may God bless you, and I pray that the there comes a time when there can be peace among all nations. m.youtube/watch?v=6udzAfSO-0k
