If you work with any of the running groups in Austin, please tell your runners that they cannot be running 2-3 abreast in the right lane (not the bike lane - the car lane!) on Lake Austin Blvd, as I saw many doing this morning. Aside from the obvious safety issues - particularly as they were between oncoming cars and the rising sun, reducing their visibility to drivers - this is not the way for the running community to maintain good relations with residents, neighborhood associations and local law enforcement. As any race / event director can tell you, keeping these groups happy is critical to the execution, success and growth of the road races that make Austin a great running city. Plus, I like being able to defend runners when people complain Roads closed for another 10K?! or Yall are as bad as cyclists! Lets stay safe, run hard and continue to be a great part of ATX!
