If your diet has a name, you might have an eating - TopicsExpress

If your diet has a name, you might have an eating disorder. (Exception: vegetarians rarely choose to be based upon some weird conception of the word health, but rather for moral reasons. This is more than reasonable. I may not share those moral ideals, but I respect them.) If you are obese and dont want to be, follow the advice of Public Enemy: Dont believe the hype. Your job is hard, but it is simple as hell. Diets with names tend to obscure everything the truly matters -- especially for those who are quite over weight and whose goals are to lose that weight. They tend to be promoted by people who have always been thin and athletic, whose own goals would NEVER be weight loss specifically and literally -- weight on scale. For the obese person who wants to be literally SMALLER -- weight on scale IS the point. For that, it is deficit time. Famines and anorexia have made this point rather banal: weight loss is a function your energy deficit. Paleo, vegetarian, alien, whatever - is about WHAT you eat. Dont be fooled! You can eat that way and lose weight ... Or, as many of my own athletes have, you can eat that way and gain weight. In other words, WHAT you eat is secondary to the only ESSENTIAL thing required for weight loss: deficit. When we confuse goals, we fail to reach them. Weight loss is weight loss! It is not health or getting ripped or increasing performance or looking good in your new lululemon Workout thong. Diets have become the fitness versions of Religions -- belief in miracles and sketchy science over a hunt for universals and basic principles. If you are dead serious about losing WEIGHT then you will eventually have to deal with reality - calories matter. We can deal with your health and performance and bro abs and macros only AFTER you have mastered the skill of eating less. Learning to eat less is a psychological, not a physiological skill. This is good news! it is trainable like any other skill. You have FULL power. And... It just isnt complicated. Its quite simple. Which is precisely why people hate the idea --- once you realize that... The ball is in your court. No miracles, no magic, just boring ass shit. Which means you can win :-) #EatForFunNotProfit
