If your inclination is to go to someone whos been protesting police brutality and ask them, What do you think about the murders of officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos? please refrain. What do you think were gonna say? I was in a racial justice workshop full of activists when the news broke, and most were horrified when the announcement was made. Some of us started crying. But already some (including some police leaders) are blaming *the protestors* for what happened, and calling on black leaders to apologize. I find that infuriating. Most of this movements leaders believe in nonviolent disruption. I do, too. My heart breaks at what happened to officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, as well as the killers girlfriend. To those who would blame one mans despicable, murderous actions on peaceful, disruptive protestors, I strongly urge you to take another look. We want justice and accountability, not hate. We want less violence, not more.
