If youve ever been to Compass Mess (Pasir Laba Camp) for the food, - TopicsExpress

If youve ever been to Compass Mess (Pasir Laba Camp) for the food, you would have come across the elderly couple who work in the kitchen tirelessly throughout the night, churning out order after orders of hor fun, fried rice, omelettes etc etc. The husband mans the wok while the wife takes orders, collects money and does simple cooking as well. And frankly having frequented the place so often, many would tell you that the old lady isnt very good at taking orders or multi-tasking; not that its really any of her fault because she seems so old already yet still having to work. But earlier this week, what really touched my comrades and I was the fact that a Captain in uniform (after office hours) was actually helping the old lady take down the food orders, collecting money and delivering orders to tables, just so that the old lady could help out her husband. Of course, it was so weird! Everyone said thank you sir! as he delivered the food to people. It was awkward yet light-hearted for everyone. Not that its any of a confession this, but its the little things like this in the army which makes the place not so bad after all, or for what its worth, the world too. p.s We forgot the Captains name initials on his uniform. But he had a 3rd Div badge (tiger), a little big sized, and wore a pair of black spectacles. If any of you know who he is, perhaps he should get some recognition! A true officer.
