Ignorance has prevailed so long only because people do not WANT to find out the truth. Dont tell me. Youll spoil my dinner is whats usually said when an attempt is made to tell HOW that dinner was produced. People dont want to make the association between the bacon on their plate and the pig who was kept in a gestation crate, barely larger than her body, for her whole life. Whether people WANT to make the association or not, its there. They still suffer unimaginable pain and torment EVERYDAY. Even people who are aware that the traditional farm has been take over by big agro businesses, still cling to a false sense that conditions cant be too bad, or the government or animal welfare societies would have done something about it. Its also that they dont want to know the facts because it will lay heavy on their conscience. After all, the victims of whatever-it-is-that-goes-on in these awful places are non-human. So, who cares, right? They are dumb animals that were put here for us (humans) to use. If Im not mistaken, God made us to have dominion over all the animals. I dont believe that meant torturing and exploiting them. Wasnt it God who said He knows every time the sparrow falls? HE cares about them. He initially created them to be companions for us. Why shouldnt we at least TRY to help them? Chances are, no one reading this post will, ideally, stop eating meat. What Im pleading is for people to make changes. Stop buying meat from grocery store chains. They come from factory farms. (Wanna know what a factory farm is? Google it. It will surprise you.) Buy local and organic. Know the farmer and how they handle their animals. One person DOES make a difference. Please, be compassionate.
