Igwe Umuoji Eulogizes Gov. Obi at the Flags-off of Umuoji Road The Igwe of Umuoji, HRH, Dr. Cyril Enweze yesterday said that Anambra State had never had it so good in all sectors under Governor Peter Obi. He said this yesterday during the flag-off of Nkwo-Umuoji- Ekeagu- Abatete road. He said the greatest thing that would happen to Anambra would be for the State to elect a visionary leader like Governor Obi to continue with his good work. Commending the developmental activities of Gov. Obi, the Igwe said: "Governor Peter Obi today provides ample testimony to the fact that under your Excellency,Anambra State has become a veritable beehive of developmental activities with the diligent implementation of Anambra Integrated Development Strategy,(ANIDS) from which Umuoji is benefitting." Lauding him for the spread of his developmental activities, unlike what the State witnessed in the past, he said: " All the 177 communities in Anambra State, including Umuoji, are experiencing a whirlwind of simultaneous developmental activity, in virtually all sectors." To buttress his point, he said that the mini Town Water Scheme at Abidi village in Umuoji was on going . He also said that schools in Umuoji, Mater Amabilis, Mercy Girls and Community Secondary School Umuoji were now wearing new looks consequent upon monetary grants to them for rehabilitation as well as provision of lab equipment, buses, generators , Internet facilities to some of them. Speaking further, he said: "Meanwhile, our two new classroom blocks, at Umuoma and Aboh villages have greatly expanded our capacity to give quality education to our children." The Igwe enumerated several projects in Umuoji for which they will remain eternally grateful to the Governor, some of which, according to him, are: the Skill Acquisition Centre, rehabilitation of Umuoji General Hospital, construction of hostel for the School of Nursing at Umuoji, annual security and palliative grants, provision of vehicles for security and for the traditional rulers in the State. Expressing joy over the construction of the road under reference, he said, : "the road infrastructure throughout the State under Obi is buzzing with construction activity: numerous bridges and a tapestry of hundreds of kilometers of new/ rehabilitated roads, more than all previous administrations put together, is being woven around the State." Concluding, he commended the Governor for transparency, accountability and prudent management of limited resources that had led to the clearance of arrears of pension and regular payment of salaries and gratuities. He said that all this ensured the involvement of several international organizations such as the World Bank,UNDP,UNICEF, DFID, and the EU in the affairs of the State as never witnessed until now. In his own remarks, Governor Peter Obi assured the people of the State that there would be no dull moment till his final day in Government. He said that his Government already had money set aside for all the on going projects and those yet to be flagged-off. " We shall sustain the Anambra revolution. Before the end of the year, for example, the State shall provide buses, computers and other facilities to all the schools in the State, both public and private for the benefit of our children", he said. In his own remarks, the State Commissioner for Works, Arc Callistus Ilozumba who said the over 6 kilometers road would cost 1 Billion Naira, with completion period of 7 months, called on the people of Umuoji to support the contractor and to take ownership of the project by reporting any irregularities to the Government. Giving the vote of thanks, the Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Chief Tony Onyima, one of those that the Governor acknowledged along with the Igwe to have made passionate case for the road project, thanked the Governor for his worthy service to Anambra State and assured him of the continued support and prayers of Umuoji people.
