Ihor Haleta, a 26-y.o. Private First Class of the Ukrainian army, tells the story of himself being captured by regular Russian army troops near Ilovaysk, Eastern Ukraine: Our platoon was completely surrounded by the Russian tanks, and we were out of ammunition. So, our officer called his superior, and the general said, surrender to them. They are not terrorists, they are regular Russian soldiers, they will not torture you. He was right - they did not torture us. They just did not feed us for several days. But there was a watermelon plantation next to us, and they allowed us to use the watermelons, so we had at least some water and food. Then they told us that we will be exchanged for Russian POWs, 1:1. And we were. When I came home, my wife hugged me and did not release me for an hour or longer, crying all the time. The Russians took everything valuable that we had - our watches, necklaces, and also all our documents, and never returned them. So I have to re-apply for passport and military ID card. When asked, would he go back to fight, Ihor said, No. I am on a contract, which expires soon. My civilian profession is that of a cook. I would rather prepare food than shoot and kill. I dont trust our generals, I believe they are all traitors. Our brigade commander, a general, visited us a few times, and we were shelled by Russians after each of his visits. I also do not trust our parliamentarians. They are all for sale.
