Iker: “Diego López had to play; I did consider leaving” “I can’t spend all day claiming that I’m not a telltale,” Iker said, adding, “Arbeloa is a great bloke although we have had our disagreements”. “Diego López is a fantastic person and a great goalkeeper. He was superb and he deserves to continue playing. He had a brilliant season,” Iker Casillas told Radio Marca this week. The Spain number one went on to say, “I never wanted problems. I have learned how to show patience ever since I was a child, I know that I have to wait and try to win my place in the side”. Casillas confessed that he did consider leaving Real Madrid after losing his place in the starting XI. “I didn’t want to be a nuisance or be harmful to the team. If one day I am told that I have to leave this club – which I consider to be my home, I will go without fuss. I was trying to recover from my injury and others were saying things about me. If that had happened to me when I was 20, I would have taken it as a problem but right now I am the captain,” Iker explained. “I’m not going to yelling that I am no telltale. I will try and win over the people who think I am not good enough. All I want to do is help my club so that they can win the 10th European Cup and all of the trophies that they contest,” the keeper insisted. Casillas also spoke about team mate, Álvaro Arbeloa: “Arbeloa is a really great guy and although we have had our disagreements, we will resolve them. Everyone has their own thoughts and we need to respect them without dwelling on things”. Iker also had words to say about Sergio Ramos, as he ended, “Sergio Ramos is an authoritative figure in the changing rooms and he acts as the captain more than I do. I feel valued and supported by the rest of the squad”.
