The elder to the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that you may PROSPER and be in HEALTH, even as your SOUL PROSPERS (3 John 1:1, 2)… Almost EVERY Christian in America has taken OUT OF CONTEXT what Apostle John has said here to ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL whom he loved, and have CREATED an entire DOCTRINE of PROSPERITY from it! But God didn’t say this to US as BELIEVERS! This is a STATEMENT of John’s DESIRE for HIS FRIEND ALONE, not God’s PROMISE or a PROPHETIC word! This STATEMENT is no more SPIRITUAL than if I said to YOU, “I wish that this be the best year you ever had in your walk with Christ because of your evident walk with Him.” Now, is this OBLIGATING God to HONOR this STATEMENT I make to YOU? No! And neither is Apostle John’s STATEMENT meant for God to HONOR for EVERY Christian just because it’s written in a LETTER to someone, as though God Himself spoke it UNIVERSALLY!!! As Christians, we have to STOP just SEEING what we WANT to SEE in Bible verses, and BEGIN to RIGHTLY DIVIDE the Word of TRUTH!!!
