Ill avoid spoilers here but the comments section is fair game and Im not going to promise specifics wont be discussed there so read that with caution. Heres some thoughts on X-Men: Days of Future Past: -I mostly loved this movie. It had most everything Id want from an X-Men movie. Id definitely put this up with X-Men: First Class and X2 as the best in the franchise. -This had just the right amount of Wolverine in it for me. Hes a key piece of the plot but the movie isnt about him. Hes a main character but not THE main character. This may upset some diehard Wolverine fans but theres already five movies in this franchise with Logan as unarguably the central protagonist. - I think I officially prefer Michael Fassbinder as Magneto over Ian McKellan. McKellan is still strong but Fassbinder brings more of an intensity to the role. -I cant decide yet if I prefer James McAvoy or Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Stewart certainly is what I pictures from the comics and brings gravitas but McAvoy gets to play a more dynamic character with more sides to him as opposed to Stewarts mentor figure. -Quicksilver was surprisingly awesome and his key scene is one of the best and most entertaining moments in the whole thing. Avengers 2 has to do a lot to impress me with their version of the character. If nothing else itll be interesting to compare the two. -Of the new members of the X-Men in the future portion of the storyline only Blink impresses. Bishop, Sunspot and Warpath are just sort of there and their powers arent particularly impressive. - Colossus and Ice Man mostly just show up to hit things and use their powers and on occasion look worried but theyre both better used here than in X-Men 3. I especially liked how Ice Mans powers and look were rendered. -Peter Dinklage is fine in his role but is a bit lost in the shuffle. The most impressive thing about his character is that the script never makes any mention of or allusions to his diminutive stature. I cant think of any other big budget production to prominently feature a little person and not make their height a defining factor. -The Sentinels were everything I wanted them to be and more. - Since when did Kitty have the ability to send people through time? -If you arent, then have a person decently well versed in X-Men stories outside of the movie on speed dial because otherwise the post credits scene wont make much sense. -Early on the film goes out of its way to establish X-Men Origins: Wolverine as not canon. This is a good thing. -After this movie it feels like theres a world of possibilities as far as what they can do with the X-Men franchise from here. I feel even more strongly than before that the planned addition of the Fantastic Four reboot to this universe is wholly unnecessary. -I greatly preferred this to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
